miniatures: concrete // abstract

It's been two weeks of adventuring and improvising, as of yesterday! I have so much to say and only a few minutes left on this library computer, so this update will have to be absurdly brief and sporadic. Here are some rushed fleeting miniature updates. More soon!

Concretely: I have been reveling in couchsurfing and am endlessly grateful for the humans I've met through that, I finished volunteering with Rapid Fire's Improvaganza which was a great experience and I was able to take two public workshops (one for improvised singing and one for beginning scenes!), I'm now hanging out with local dance company CRIPSiE as they prepare for their first full-length performance a week from Saturday, I'm excited to check out the International Street Performer's festival starting on Friday, and I'm going down, hopefully with a new buddy, to Jasper and then Calgary in a week and a half!

Abstractly: I've been thinking a whole lot about negotiating the relationships and tension between structure and spontaneity/play/flexibility, also about the relationships and tension around excellence and professionalism and accessibility in performance, especially grassroots / collaborative performance, also thinking about the differences between "disability art" and "crip art," about the politics of being a part-time wheelchair user in performance, about the many different genres of improvisation and the different standards and expectations that emerge (and are broken) within those, about humor and what we laugh at, about offers and responses and sincerity, about developing friendships and negotiating balance and relying on people and expressing gratitude and so so so so much more.

So much love to my buddies all over the place! Hope you're reading this from somewhere calm and cozy.
